The Introduction to Guiding course is a three-day course designed to introduce students to elements of guiding as they're centered within the framework of the AMGA and AIARE. Be prepared for lessons including single pitch and multi pitch, sport and trad climbing, managing risk, client management skills, very basic wilderness medicine skills and rescue techniques, as well as many more.

This course is designed for people who may be interested in mountain guiding. Apex Mountain School does not intend for the information in the course to be presented as an all-encompassing introduction for all kinds of guiding, for all guide services, or for all principles in guiding. The purpose of the course is to provide fundamental information regarding possible tracks for experience and education, fundamental skills and techniques of guiding, and other information found through experience to be useful to mountain guides. It's an opportunity to further develop leadership skills, team-player skills, and confidence in technical skills prior to enrolling in formal AMGA courses. This is NOT an AMGA-certified course, nor does it count toward your WFA or WFR, however introductory knowledge in these disciplines will be shared.

If you're wondering what you need to do to get on track to be a mountain guide or learn more about what mountain guiding services may be looking for, this three-day course that incorporates classroom and field sessions may be the perfect experience for you. Your successful completion of the course will provide you with a certificate of course completion. Apex Mountain School reserves the right to remove any student(s) from class who may be compromising the safety of the other participants.
